4 steps in the plastic bucket production process

The plastic bucket raw materials HDPE or PP are fed into the bucket-making machine through a hopper, and melting plastic materials in the barrel. After heating the plastic material to the desired temperature, the hot plastic (liquid) leaves the heating chamber through a nozzle and reaches the bucket mold cavity (in the shape of the bucket you need). the molten plastic is then injected into a mould where it is clamped under injection pressure. The mold is kept closed for a specific cooling time to allow the plastic to solidify and form the shape of the bucket.  Once the plastic has cooled, the plastic hardened solidified, the mould is opened and the newly formed plastic bucket is ejected out of the mould.

Normally there are 4 steps to produce a plastic bucket:

  • Step 1: Plasticizing the raw material 
  • Step 2: Clamping the bucket mold
  • Step 3: Injection the material into a water bucket mold
  • Step 4: Cooling and Demolding

Step 1: Plasticizing the raw material

The main plastic bucket material polypropylene (PP) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) is fed into the high-temperature barrel of the plastic bucket injection molding machine and melted into a viscous melt under the action of the heating element.

The plastic bucket injection molding machine squeezes the plasticized molten plastic from the feeding port into the front end of the barrel through the thrust of the screw.

Step2: Clamping the bucket mold

The plastic bucket injection molding machine’s clamping unit is used to ensure that the plastic bucket mould remains tightly closed during the plastic bucket injection process to prevent the molten plastic from leaking or the mold from separating. It locks the plastic bucket mould by applying sufficient force to ensure the plastic bucket molding quality.

Step 3: Injection the material into bucket mold

The molten plastic bucket material is injected into the closed bucket mold cavity through the nozzle under high pressure. The injection speed and time are controlled according to the plastic bucket product design requirements to ensure that the bucket plastic is fully fused.

Step 4: Cooling and Demolding

The plastic bucket mould remains closed, and the molten plastic cools and solidifies in the mold to form the required plastic buckets. The cooling time depends on the type of plastic bucket and the complexity of the buckets and is usually cooled by the water system. After cooling, the mould opens and the ejector mechanism ejects the finished plastic buckets from the mould.

For ejection, when producing some deep type of plastic water bucket, must be carefully to calculate the plastic bucket injection machine’s open stroke. The distance should be at least double as plastic bucket’s deep/height. Otherwise, it’s hard to fetch the bucket from the mold.

When plastic buckets with side holes or side depressions on the plastic part, it must have a core or slider that can move laterally. In these cases, the movable mold will move down a certain distance, and then the inclined surface of the bent pin fixed on the fixed mold plate will force the slider to pull the core laterally. Then it can ensure these plastic buckets smoothly demould from the mould.
