How is a PVC pipe manufactured

PVC pipe manufacturing process involves several key stages, from raw material preparation to final quality control.

  • Material charging
  • Injection
  • Pressure hold
  • Cooling
  • Demold & ejection

It is produced by pvc injection molding machine. PVC pipe manufacturing machine is a kind of professional plastic processing equipment to manufacture PVC pipe materials, which is made into pipe joints by heating and melting PVC raw materials through the process of injection molding. This machine have chrome-plated screws and barrels for PVC, UPVC, CPVC as well as powder PVC. In the production process, the temperature needs to be strictly controlled, and a temperature control system and fan are installed to ensure product quality.

Steps of PVC pipe manufacturing process

PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) pipes are widely used for plumbing, drainage, irrigation, and other applications due to their durability, corrosion resistance, and cost-effectiveness.

The manufacturing process of PVC pipes involves several steps, from raw material preparation to final product testing. Here’s the five steps of how PVC pipes are manufactured.

Material charging

  • PVC raw materials enter the heating unit of the machine through the hopper: screw and barrel. In the middle of the barrel is a rotating screw. The rotation of the screw will push the material forward.
  • And the screw moves backwards while rotating. The screw gradually rotates backwards to push the PVC material forward. During the process of advancement, PVC particles are melting and finally pushing into the front end of the material barrel.

Injection

  • Once the front end of the material barrel is filled with enough PVC raw material. The screw stops pre molding and is pushed forward by the hydraulic cylinder at the back to quickly squeeze the melted raw material at the front end, forcing the melted PVC to enter the mold through the nozzle, gate, and runner.
  • Push the screw  with sufficient pressure to allow the melt to enter the mold from the nozzle.

Pressure hold

  • Maintain this pressure to ensure shape retention during PVC cooling.

Cooling

  • Cooling is achieve by passing the cooling fluid through the channels around the mold.
  • This can be water or other coolant. Once cooled, the product will spray out. During cooling, the machine will use the cooling time to charge the material, so that we can shorter the cycle time.

Demold & ejection

  • The mold opens and the core puller begins to work. Because PVC pipe joint molds often have multiple sets of core pulling. Therefore, demolding takes time.

Five types of PVC pipe fitting

PVC machine
  • Water supply Pipe Fitting
  • Electrical Pipe Fitting
  • Drainage Pipe Fitting
  • PPR/PE Pipe Fitting

Water supply Pipe Fitting

PVC water supply pipe fitting include direct joints, three-way joints, four-way joints, elbows, flange joints, clamp joints, etc. These joints are suitable for PVC pipes and have good chemical stability and corrosion resistance.

Electrical Pipe Fitting

It used to connect PVC conduit, mainly used for buried wires in walls or other pipeline systems. This type of joint can help wires or pipes pass smoothly through walls or other structures, and ensure the sealing and stability of the connection.

Drainage Pipe Fitting

Common methods for connecting PVC drainage pipes include using sealing gaskets, bonding, and flange connections.PVC pipe coupling, for water drainage. There are many PVC pipe sizes, so the PVC pipe fitting.

PPR/PE Pipe Fitting

PPR and PE pipes are two commonly used water supply pipeline materials, which have significant differences in structure and performance. Has high plasticity and heat resistance, commonly used in water supply pipelines in home decoration projects.

How is pvc manufactured

process of injection molding PVC pipe
  • Material Preparation
  • Melting the PVC
  • Injection into Mold
  • Cooling and Solidification
  • Ejection of the Part
  • Post-Processing

PVC injection molding is a precise and efficient manufacturing process used to create durable and versatile plastic parts. Here’s a concise overview of how PVC manufactures using an injection molding machine:

Material Preparation:

Workers load PVC pellets into the hopper of the injection molding machine. They typically dry these pellets first to remove moisture, which could otherwise affect the molding process.

Melting the PVC:

The screw pushes the pellets into a heated barrel, where they melt into a viscous state. The barrel’s heating system and rotating screw ensure the PVC reaches the optimal melting temperature, usually between 345°F to 375°F (175°C to 190°C).

Injection into Mold:

The molten PVC is injected into a mold cavity under high pressure. The mold’s design determines the final product’s shape and details. Proper injection speed and pressure are crucial to fill the mold completely and avoid defects.

Cooling and Solidification:

Coolant, typically water, circulates through channels to cool the mold. The PVC solidifies within the mold, taking on its final shape. Cooling time varies based on the part’s thickness and complexity.

Ejection of the Part:

Once the part cools, the mold opens, and the ejector pins push out the solidified part. Operators must carefully control this step to avoid damaging the part.

Post-Processing:

The final part may undergo additional processes like trimming or inspection to ensure quality.

How to choose pvc injection molding machine to produce pvc pipe fittings

  • Analyze pvc pipe fittings drawings or send samples
