What is the manufacturing process of injection molded plastic pallets

The Plastic Pallet Manufacturing Process involves injecting melted plastic into molds, cooling, and ejecting the formed pallets.

There are several technologies on the market today for manufacturing plastic pallets, and each has its unique advantages. Common plastic pallet manufacturing processes include injection, thermoforming, blow molding, compression, and rotational molding. However, in this article, we will focus on the manufacturing process of injection molded pallets, and discuss the advantages of using injection molding to make plastic pallets. This process is particularly popular because it allows for high precision and consistency in the final product.

Plastic Pallet Manufacturing Process

Manufacturing plastic pallets by injection is one of the most commonly used processes. The following are the general steps for injection molding of plastic pallets.

Designing Molds

Molds are usually made of steel or aluminum. The mold of the plastic pallet should be designed according to the size, weight and usage scenarios of the plastic pallet to be produced.

Choose a plastic material

The choice of plastic depends on factors such as the intended use of the pallet, strength requirements, and any specific properties required (such as heat or chemical resistance). Common plastic materials used for pallets include PE and HDPE.

Melt the plastic pellets

Mix the plastic pellets as needed and add any additives or colorants required, then melt the plastic pellets in an extruder or special heating device.

Injection molding

Molten plastic material is injected into a mold cavity under high pressure. To ensure precise molding, the mold is clamped tightly. The plastic fills the mold cavity, taking on the shape of the pallet. Afterward, the plastic cools and solidifies inside the mold.

Open the mold and take out the tray

After the plastic cools and solidifies, open the mold and eject the plastic tray from the mold cavity. Ejector pins or ejector plates are used to push the pallet out of the mold. The pallet is then trimmed or cut to remove excess plastic or raw edges.

Advantages of injection molding to manufacture plastic pallets

  1. Compared with other process methods, the injection molding process is quieter, smaller, faster, has less impact on the environment, and consumes less hydraulic pressure and energy.
  2. The production and processing process can realize fully automatic production, and the equipment can operate under long-term, stable and efficient automatic control.
  3. The production process is energy-saving and environmentally friendly. No waste water or waste gas is produced during the production process, which can effectively reduce the degree of pollution to the environment.
  4. The injection molding machine can handle complex details of plastic pallets, such as single- and double-layer structures, hollow structures, etc. design requirements.
