What Materials Are Used In Injection Molding

  • Polypropylene (PP):

  • Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA):

Also known as acrylic, PMMA is favored in injection molding due to its use in various acrylic works. Its clarity is unrivaled and processing it is quite easy.

  • Polyvinyl chloride (PVC):

Functional Requirements

  • Chemical Resistance → PP and PTFE materials are the most ideal.
  • High Transparency → PC and PMMA are the preferred materials.

Cost Control

  • PE and PP materials range from $1.5–2/kg.
  • Higher Cost: PEEK is $100/kg and is used in aerospace industries.

Processing Conditions

  • PP and PE are high flow materials and more suitable for thin-wall parts because they lower injection pressure.
  • Thermoset plastics need tight temperature control to avoid premature curing.

Environmental Requirements

  • Recyclable Materials: PET and HDPE.
  • Biodegradable Materials: PLA and PBAT
